Who to Blame When things don’t go Your Way

Donald Trump sees himself as a victim. Boohoo. Is he Jud in “Oklahoma” or Captain Queeg of “the Caine Mutiny”?

Just four weeks ago the total number of deaths from the coronavirus in the United States exceeded 50,000 people. Now in just a month the number of deaths has exceeded 100,000.

With a population of 330,000 people, versus a worldwide population of 7.8 billion people The United States the United States accounts more than 27% of all the coronavirus deaths in the world.

How can this be?

A large percentage of Americans refuse to follow the guidelines recommended by virologists. Leadership by our president is lacking. The president refuses to wear a mask. He encouraged the public to protest against state governors who ordered stay at home regulations.

Do you see a trend in the number of new cases? Here are the daily reports.

May 18   New Cases: 22,630

May 19   New Cases: 20,289

May 20   New Cases: 21,408

May 21   New Cases: 28,179

May 22   New Cases: 24,197

May 23   New Cases: 21,929

May 24   New Cases: 19,608

May 25   New Cases: 19,790

May 26   New Cases: 19,049

May 27   New Cases: 20,546

May 28   New Cases: 22,658

May 29   New Cases: 25,069

Donald Trump needs distractions. So there is a fight with the news media and social media platforms. Blame the WHO for not giving the United States sufficient warning. Blame China. Blame the Obama administration for no preparation (there was a briefing document left for him to read).

Who will he blame if he loses in the November election? We can easily guess. The media. The deep state. Fraudulent votes. Bad campaign managers.

See Captain Queeg.

“We have met the moment and we have prevailed”

This is something like President George W Bush declaring mission accomplished.

“We have met the moment and we have prevailed,” Trump announced, flanked by banners declaring “America leads the world in testing.” He tried again to spin the total numbers of tests done as the best measure of the country’s ability to track the coronavirus. Pressed on whether it is true that tests are available to any American who wants one, he said, “It is a true statement already. We have more testing than anyone by far.”

What moment is that?  Today the total deaths exceed 80,000 people. If the latest daily death toll continues at today’s number an additional 22,000 deaths will occur over the next 30 days.

The Coronavirus Task force has projected 100,000 to 240,000 deaths in U.S., even with mitigation efforts

President Trump this weekend expressed concern that White House aides contracting coronavirus would undercut his message the outbreak is waning. To boost his view that the United States is winning the battle against the virus he comes up with the idea, incorrectly, that testing proves we are succeeding.  Winning this battle would be a cure for those infected and a vaccine that prevents future cases from occurring.

Apparently we have short term memory loss when it comes to remembering what has happened regarding the virus.

It was the president who declared a national emergency effective March 12. In a press conference he said “I don’t take responsibility at all,” he said when asked about U.S. delays to testing the public. He did set the stage for the national shutdown. The governors responded to his declaration.

It was March 31 when the White House task force projected 100,000 to 240,000 deaths from the virus, with mitigation. Trump himself finally warned the 100,000 of higher death rate on May 4.

President’s intelligence briefing book repeatedly cited virus threat

This is a disturbing report that was published in the Washington Post.  The entire report recites Donald Trump’s dealing with the coronavirus. The complete article is here The first 11 paragraphs are the most important and are posted, unabridged, here.  Trump is reported to be a big watcher of television.  If only the President’s Daily Briefing had been broadcast perhaps America’s response to the virus would have been different.

U.S. intelligence agencies issued warnings about the novel coronavirus in more than a dozen classified briefings prepared for President Trump in January and February, months during which he continued to play down the threat, according to current and former U.S. officials.

The repeated warnings were conveyed in issues of the President’s Daily Brief, a sensitive report that is produced before dawn each day and designed to call the president’s attention to the most significant global developments and security threats.

For weeks, the PDB — as the report is known — traced the virus’s spread around the globe, made clear that China was suppressing information about the contagion’s transmissibility and lethal toll, and raised the prospect of dire political and economic consequences.

But the alarms appear to have failed to register with the president, who routinely skips reading the PDB and has at times shown little patience for even the oral summary he takes two or three times per week, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss classified material.

The advisories being relayed by U.S. spy agencies were part of a broader collection of worrisome signals that came during a period now regarded by many public health officials and other experts as a squandered opportunity to contain the outbreak.

As of Monday, more than 55,000 people in the United States had died of covid-19.

The frequency with which the coronavirus was mentioned in the PDB has not been previously reported, and U.S. officials said it reflected a level of attention comparable to periods when analysts have been tracking active terrorism threats, overseas conflicts or other rapidly developing security issues.

A White House spokesman disputed the characterization that Trump was slow to respond to the virus threat. “President Trump rose to fight this crisis head-on by taking early, aggressive historic action to protect the health, wealth and well-being of the American people,” said spokesman Hogan Gidley. “We will get through this difficult time and defeat this virus because of his decisive leadership.”

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for the PDB. In response to questions about the repeated mentions of coronavirus, a DNI official said, “The detail of this is not true.” The official declined to explain or elaborate.

U.S. officials emphasized that the PDB references to the virus included comprehensive articles on aspects of the global outbreak, but also smaller digest items meant to keep Trump and senior administration officials updated on the course of the contagion. Versions of the PDB are also shared with Cabinet secretaries and other high-ranking U.S. officials.

One official said that by mid- to late January the coronavirus was being mentioned more frequently, either as one of the report’s core articles or in what is known as an “executive update,” and that it was almost certainly called to Trump’s attention orally.

The administration’s first major step to arrest the spread of the virus came in late January, when Trump restricted travel between the United States and China, where the virus is believed to have originated late last year.

Doctor Trump’s Idea to Disinfect Lungs Leaves Medical Experts Aghast

“I’M JUST HERE TO PRESENT IDEAS,” President DONALD TRUMP said to WaPo’s PHIL RUCKER when Phil posited, quite accurately, that “people tuning in to [the White House] briefings, they want to get information and guidance and want to know what to do. They’re not looking for rumors.”

Earlier in Thursday’s briefing a presentation about how disinfectants kill germs including the coronavirus Donald Trump followed up thanking the presenter Bill Bryan, an undersecretary at the Homeland Security Department and said “Is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside?” He said it would be “almost a cleaning. It gets in the lungs and does a tremendous number on the lungs.”

Doctors say that people should absolutely not use disinfectant in their lungs, or inhale or ingest it in any way. Bleach is a toxic chemical, and inhaling it could be damaging and dangerous.

“Inhaling chlorine bleach would be absolutely the worst thing for the lungs,” said John Balmes, a pulmonologist a Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and a professor of medicine at the University of California San Francisco. “The airway and lungs are not made to be exposed to even an aerosol of disinfectant.”

On Friday morning, the maker of Lysol and Dettol, Reckitt Benckiser Plc, issued a statement that “under no circumstance” should its disinfectant products be administered into the human body, through injection, ingestion or any other route.

Citing deaths, FDA issues warning against antimalarial drugs touted by Trump

Still, there are those who blindly respond to every word Donald Trump speaks. Emergency rooms need to prepare for another category of visitors.

Cry-babies just Can’t Handle the Stress of Staying Healthy

“Waah, it’s not fair. I want to go out and shop. I don’t care who it hurts.”

Los Angeles County on Saturday reported 81 new deaths related to COVID-19, the county’s highest one-day death toll from the disease by far. In the last week, deaths among L.A. County residents have roughly doubled and now stand at more than 570. This was reported in all the local newspapers.

Meanwhile just 40 miles away in Orange county California (really part of metropolitan Los Angeles) a group of more than 100 protesters converged on Huntington Beach on Friday in a demonstration against California’s coronavirus stay-at-home rules, part of a series of national demonstrations organized by conservative groups. One demonstrator carried a “Live Free or Die” banner and another reading “Defy Fascist Lockdown.”

I guess cry babies are just that. Do these people wash their hands after using the toilet?

Coronavirus Deaths by Nation

Sadly the United States is the country with the most deaths, 26,064 and the most cases of this disease.  Italy is second and China has had 3,342 deaths.  While the number of cases word wide now exceeds 2 million, the United States also leads that number at over 640,000.

Our institutions have failed to protect our population.  Lack of leadership at the top is to blame.  Donald Trump can try to lay the blame elsewhere but he claims total authority when he comes to claiming a success.  When things don’t work out it’s always some one else’s fault.
